It will not usually be considered the funnest game in the field of gaming, but keno has millions and millions of devoted fans. As well it should! It’s a constantly exciting lottery-style game that’s easy to play, abundantly available in loads of assorted formats, and one that can pay out millions for gamblers who learn its countless subtle intricacies. But let’s deal with the beginner’s rules here.

When describing keno to newcomers, some gaming masters compare it to the lottery. This is at least in some ways correct, in that both games are essentially numerical. However, to carry that comparison too far might be to minimize the many unique characteristics that make keno so interesting. Not like bingo, keno gamblers have the ability to choose the numbers for every card.

Keno cards have a total of eighty numbers, but the player is given an extra level of personal responsibility by being able to decide on as numerous (or as few) numbers as he wants. And it doesn’t take a super genius to figure out how to fill out a card: all you do is circle or otherwise mark each of your selected numbers with a ordinarymarker like you used back in school.

Once you’ve selected your numbers, take the keno card back to the clerk at the keno stand. The girl will record those numbers and then give you a receipt. Don’t misplace this (potentially) valuable bit of paper! Even if the keno pit manager remembers you and wants help out, without a winning receipt in hand, you will be given precisely $.00 for your actions.

So, there you have strategy numero uno: always make sure to keep your keno slip. Let’s go on to something a little bit more complicated, ok?

Once you’ve checked off your numbers, get into a comfortable keno booth and observe the action happen on the big keno monitor. This is where the winning numbers are displayed for us. If you’ve got winning numbers, mark your card accordingly. Make sure not to take your time, or sit there praising yourself for too great a length of time. You want to get back to the keno stand to collect your winnings, and then a new keno game will likely begin within 5 minutes.

Strategy #2: always get back to the keno booth on time!

Since you can’t trust yourself to meet that five-minute deadline each time, you always retain the option of purchasing a "multi-race" ticket. These include the self same set of your chosen numbers on anywhere from 2 to twenty tickets. When the max number of games (fitting the number of tickets) is finished, you can then get off your numb rump and go collect your winnings.

Another option is known as a "stray and play" keno slip, which generally lets you make number selection for thirty games or more. Hell, you can take a Swedish massage and not have to worry about getting back in time to redeem your numbers. Most "stray and play" cards are good for up to a whole year after it’s bought!

And now you know a few required schemes for winning keno. If you are a knowledgeable user, they may appear to be stupidly obvious. However, it does not hurt to bone up on the fundamentals, and if you are a new user, every tiny bit of direction will help make your keno playing time more fun.
